V300 Brake Rotor Choice
It is fair to say that stock Aristo V300 brakes
are no good. They are quiet, but not much use on a track and warp easily
with heavy braking. AVOID USING PERFORMANCE FAST ROAD PAD WITH STANDARD
DISC - I warped my stock Aristo V300 rotors this way.
The caliper is strong but the disc is weak. Recommended setup which
I use :
- Black Diamond grooved disc
I avoid the drilled discs as they can crack, the holes are designed
to disappate heat and water.
I've used the Black diamond grooved disc with lots of different brake
pads, even racing brake pads and I can say they work very very well.
I have not cracked or warped one yet! Durability was good, rotors lasting
18 months with fast road and some track use.
Replacement is required when the grooves start to disappear below 2MM
depth. Much easily to check than stock rotors which have no grooves.
If you need to get yourself Black Diamond rotors, see Aristo
Store
Removal of Brake rotor
- you will need a ramp to get rotation on your
wrench and some heavy tools possiblt as the bolt whic holds the rotor/disc
in place is torqued very high. It is not a home-garage job and would
recomend taking to commercial garage. Technically it is no more complicated
than brake pad change.
Tips for Brake rotor installation
- use worn pads to brake in a new disc/rotor if possible. Brake gently
for 500 miles, although if you are like me you'll rush from the garage
directly to the race-track and put 60 miles on them before cooking them
up!
